Genetics
Is Green Crack indica or sativa? Its genetics and family tree
Green Crack is a sativa, or a sativa-dominant hybrid in some listings, bred from Skunk #1 and a second parent that Leafly calls an unknown indica and Weedmaps and Humboldt Seed Organization call Afghani.1,2,3,4 The original circulated as a cutting; seeds sold under the name are separate lines.4,5,6

The two parents
Skunk #1 is a hybrid that first bloomed in the late 1970s; Sacred Seed Co. bred it from Afghani, Acapulco Gold and Colombian Gold genetics, and Leafly lists Green Crack and Granddaddy Purple among its offspring.7 Humboldt Seed Organization and an early grower’s account on SeedFinder specify a 1989 Super Sativa Seed Club Skunk #1, and Weedmaps also names a 1989 Super Sativa Seed Club parent.3,4,5
The second parent is less certain. Afghani, the parent named by Weedmaps and several seed sellers, is an indica from Afghanistan that Leafly says is prized for heavy resin production.3,4,14,15,16
Afghani or unknown indica? Four accounts
The sources agree on Skunk #1 but not on the second parent.
| Second parent | Who says so |
|---|---|
| An unknown indica | Leafly; the early grower’s account reproduced on SeedFinder1,5 |
| Afghani (a landrace, or an “isolated Afghani cut”) | Weedmaps; Humboldt Seed Organization; Crop King Seeds; DNA Genetics3,4,15,16 |
| Afghani or an unknown indica | GreenState17 |
| None: bred by inbreeding Skunk #1 | AllBud2 |
How sativa is it?
Leafly and Weedmaps list Green Crack as a sativa, and Leafly's grow guide calls it sativa-dominant.1,3,18 Published splits include 55% sativa for FastBuds' autoflower, 60% for Humboldt Seed Organization's seed version and 65% on AllBud, and a Mission Dispensaries guide cites reports of 70%.2,4,19,20
SeedFinder's database is the outlier: it files both the clone-only original and Humboldt Seed Organization's version as mostly indica, which conflicts with the breeder's own 60% sativa figure.4,5,21
The original cut and the seed versions
The original circulated as cuttings. SeedFinder files it under clone-only strains, and the account reproduced there says clones of the plant Snoop Dogg named proved identical to Cecil C.’s Cush.5
Seeds sold as Green Crack are separate lines; MerryJane says genuine Green Crack should come only from clone cuts and calls seeds sold online likely hybrids.6 Humboldt Seed Organization lists a 1989 Super Sativa Seed Club Skunk #1 × an isolated Afghani cut, Crop King Seeds and DNA Genetics list Skunk #1 × Afghani, and FastBuds sells an autoflowering version.4,15,16,19
In our lab dataset, results sold as Green Crush or Green Cush count as Green Crack, while CBD versions and crosses do not: we excluded 156 results under near-miss names, among them “CBD Green Crack” (11 results).22

| Green Crack Extreme | Leafly calls it the more “extreme” sister of the original and lists Green Crack as its parent | Leafly23 |
Granddaddy Purple is a sibling rather than an offspring: Leafly lists both it and Green Crack as children of Skunk #1.7
